Course Reflection

In the past seven days, we learned to use mary technology tools. I enjoy this period of time’s learning very much. The course is very interesting and I never learn it before. It is very helpful for my future’s teaching. First, we create our own learning blog. We can publish our reflections on the blog and share with others. Second day, the teacher introduced the flipped classroom to us. I learned that this kind of classroom is quite different from traditional teaching model.We create the lesson plan as a group in the afternoon. Third day, we learn to use the ClassDojo and padlet. Fourth day,teacher told us what is the website. And we are asked to create a website as a group according to our lesson plan. Fifth day, we are asked to create the audio and video which can teach the children by using online tools. Sixth day, we learn digtail storytelling. It uses new digital tools to help ordinary people to tell real-life stories. Seventh day, we use technology tools to create quiz, survey and vote. We use wenjuanxing, polleverywhere  and testmoz.

During these days, I like ClassDojo, padlet and wenjuanxing most. And I will surely use them in my teaching. First, I like ClassDojo very much. It builts a platform for teachers and parents where they can communicating with each other freely and timely. It can help parents to know their children’s behavior, study and activities at school. They do not wait until each semester will be able to communicate with the teacher to understand their children in the school situation.  At the same time, it can encourage children to have a better behavior at school. Second, padlet is very useful. People can add their comments freely. They can post text, audio, video, file, website links, and take photos if a webcam is embeded. What’s more, we can share the link of the padlet to another website. We can see ideas from different areas. Third, wenjuanxing is a great tools for us to create quiz, survey or vote. It is a professional online questionnaire survey, evaluation and voting platform. It has powerful functions. It is free for us to use. I think it is very helpful for teachers to use. For example, teacher can use it quickly to create survey and vote and let students finish it before class. Then the website will show the result. Teachers can know how much do the students know the new knoeledge. I can make my teaching plan more effective according to the result. After class, I can create the quiz and let them finish it online. Wenjuanxing can me the result of the quiz. I can know if they understand the new knowlegde.

But there are some tools may not be used in my teaching. First, maybe I will not create audio file and video. Because in China, online course is not very popular. Especially for children, their courses are very interesting. It needs real teachers to teach them and help them. And there is little opportunity for them to view the website. Maybe they have not patience to finishing listening the audio or watching the video. Besides, I may not create the website. Because I think kindergarten children do not learn the word. It is diffcult for them to view the website.

During my study, I learn that cooperation is very important. In this course, there are many works need group to finish together. It needs everyone’s hardwork. And if someone do not know how to do the project, the other people will come to give a hand. Cooperation make us to finish our group project successful. Besides, I learn that patience is very important. Because we have article and reflection to read and finish. We must work hard. What’s more, schoology helped me understand the course content and learn better during my group work. I can download the learning materials from the website. When I met problems, I can log in and see the Powerpoint and articles on it. It helps me a lot when I write my reflection.

I think negative attitude should be avoided for group work. Everyone should take an active part in group works. If someone is negative and never take part in our group discussion, everybody else’s work will be more. And it is not fair. Besides, disunity should be avoided too. If everyone only do your own projects, our website will not be perfect or even not finished. What’s more, grumble is bad. If one person complain to another person in the group, he will pass the negative attitude to the others. Finally, no one will want to finish the group project.

I have both strong and weak points in this class. I think I work very hard in this class. Once there are some works for me to do, I will finish it at the fastest speed. And I like learning to use the new technology tools. However, I did not take an active part in publishing articles on our group’s website. Since there is some problem. The website does not allow more than one person to publish articles at the same time, so there is a certain person to publish. In the end, I hope that I will use what I learned in this class to teach my students and more and more people will use the technology in the education.

Day Seven

Online Questionnaire, Worksheet, and Quizzes

We were asked to create a quiz to assess their students learning outcomes this morning. We use different tools to do this, such as polleverywhere, wenjuanxing, and testmoz. I think they are all very easy to use. Their interfaces are very clear and clear. Polleverywhere and testmoz are in English, but wenjuanxing is in Chinese. Wenjuanxing has more functions than another two tools. It can publish quiz, survey, vote and it can record the exam time. And when we create our vote or survey, we can add images and change the typeface. It can make our quiz more colorful. Polleverywhere and testmoz can only add words.

There are mary funtions on the wenjuanxing, I use to create the vote. I can add questions and options on it. And I can choose the type of the questions, such as single choice, multiple choice and gap filling. What’s more, we can let the options be random. It makes the result more real and exclude the effect of the order of options. Besides, I can add images and video in the vote. After people finish the vote, wenjuanxing can show us the number of the votes and vote percentage. It is very clear for creaters to know the result.

When I teach a class, I can integrate these tools into classroom teaching. Before the class, I can create a vote or survey and let my students to finish it. So I can know how much they have known about the new knoeledge. I can make my teaching plan more effective according to the result. After class, I can create the quiz and let them finish it online. After their finishing, the software can show me the result of the quiz in detail. I can see who make the mistake on the certain question. It can help me to know the total and private learning situation.

These projects help you meet ISTE standard: model digital age work and learning. Teachers use technology tools to create quiz, survey and quiz online. And then teachers collaborate with stdents and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation. And it is very esay for teachers to collect and know the result of the quiz or vote in detail. It can support research and learning.

Day Six

Today we learn digtail storytelling. It uses new digital tools to help ordinary people to tell real-life stories. It is the practice of combining narrative with digital content, including images, sound, and video, to create a short movie, typically with a strong emotional component. And it is normally 2-5 minutes long. There are many advantages to use digtail storytelling. It can provide more variation than traditional in current practice, personalize learning experience, make explanation or practicing of certain topics more compelling, create real life situations in an easy and cheaper way. And it can improve the involvment of students in the process of  learning. Whenever, a teacher wants to enhance student learning, student motivation, student engagement and build student technology skills, he can use the digital storytelling. Before we use digital storytelling, we should perpare for it. At first, we should make a plan, it includes defining purporses, analyzeing audience and deciding the tools to be used. Next, we should write an initial script, plan an accompanying storyboard. And then we will collect images and music and create the digital story. After that, we can modify the story and publish it finally.

I choose to use the Apple iMovie. Because I only have the Macbook. It is a little bit different for me to use the tool. I never used it before. I met some problems during editing my movie. At first, I did not know how to use it. Then I search the Baidu. I found there were many teaching courses on it. And I follow it and success to create my movie.

I will give some suggestions to those who want to use video in their classes. First, we should make ensure who are you audience. If the audience are children, we should make the movie interesting and cute. The movie should be attractive and suitable for the audience. Besides, we should make sure the movie clear and easy to understand.

The audio and video projects meet the ISTE standard: facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity. Teachers use their knowlegde of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology of facilitate experiences that advance student learning. It engages students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.

Day Five

Audio Editing

This morning teacher asked us to create audio file to teach the content in the lessson plan. First of all, I check the lesson plan on computer. Then, I made a list of what I would say on the paper. I prepared for several minutes. Then I used my mobile phone to record my voice. It has an app named Voice Recorder. Next step, I log in my Baidu yunpan, I put my video into the Baidu yunpan. And I found the “share” option. I clicked it and a URL came out. So I copyed this URL and put it on our website. The main function I used is my mobile phone. The challenge what I met is that I did not know how to put the video into my Baidu yunpan. Then my friend came to help me. And the video format is m4a, but the format we need is mp3. I am not very good at using the computer. So it is a big problem for me. I searched the Baidu to find the way to solve this problem. Then I download the Baidu Music. In this app, I succeed to change the format.

We were also asked to create an about 2 minutes video to teach the content. I choose to use the PowerPoint to create this video. First, I collect the pictures when I am doing this activity. Then I put the pictures in the PowerPoint. There is a function ” screen recording”. I can play the PowerPoint and speaking at the same time. Next, I share the video to the app AiQiYi and then share the link to the website. The reason why I choose this tool is that it is earier for us to use than any more tools. And the picture is very nice and simple. It is very clear for children to watch and learn.

Day Four

Today, teacher told uswhat is the website. Web page is the page people can search for information and pictures. And there are several links on one web page. People can click one of them and then they can reach another web page. The web page should be made up of words and pictures. And people must view the web page online. There are some differences between a web page and a document page. A document page only has words. It is more monotonous than a web page. Next, document page does not have any links. People can only view this certain information. But they can click other links on the web page.

Website is a means of communication, just like a bulletin board, where people can publish information they want to make public through the web, or use web sites to provide relevant web services. People can access Websites through web browsers, access to the information they need, or enjoy web services. It is necessary for us to plan our site with a storyboard ahead of time. We can make a plan about what we should put on our website. It is more logical and methodical. And after making a plan ahead of time, everybody of our group can ensure what to do quickly. It can save time.

When we are creating a website, we met some problems. At first, my mail box can not receive e-mail. So I must change my e-mail address. Then, after we publishing our articles on our website, we can not find they. Our website is still empty. We should not solve this problem, so we ask teacher for help. She told us that only one person can publish article at one time.

This project help me meet the ISTE standard: promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility. Creating a website can develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital age communication and collaboration tool. People can all view our website all over the world. It connect us to the world.

My experience with class management software: classdojo

classdjToday teacher introduced ClassDojo to us. It is a free online software. It builts a platform for teachers and parents where they can communicating with each other freely and timely. It can help parents to know their children’s behavior, study and activities at school. They do not wait until each semester will be able to communicate with the teacher to understand their children in the school situation. Besides, ClassDojo can also guide the parents at home when the child to guide the correct to strengthen what they learned at school.

I learn a lot from this project. It is a faster way for teachers and parents to communicate with each other than traditional ways. ClassDojo is very effective. At the same time, it can encourage children to have a better behavior at school. And it can effect children’s suitions in detail.

If I am the teacher, I will let every parent and children download ClassDojo. Children can upload their projects, share movies, conduct discussions, and others. It provides more opportunities. And learning in this way becomes more interesting. They can share their ideas quicker.

This project connect to one of the ISTE standards: model digital age work and learning. Teachers use technology to keep in touch with parents. It collaborates with children, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation. Teachers record children’s good or bad behaviors on ClassDojo. For example, if children help others, teachers will add some points. If children sleep at class, teachers will reduce some points. Parents can know about their children timely and effectively.

Then I learn more about the function of ClassDojo. For example, I learn how to use the class story. There are several option we can select. Teachers can add photos or documents in the class story. Only the children in class and their parents can see the class story. And they can add comments freely. This can protect the privacy of the children.

Integrating electronic white board in classroom teaching

padletIn the afternoon, we learned how to use padlet. It is an electronic white board, where students can post text, audio, video, file, website links, and take photos if a webcam is embeded. Whoever you are, you can post something you want on the padlet. Besides, after the padlet was created, we can share the link on other websites.

I think this is a quite great online white board. People can add their comments freely. It is very suit for people who have the similar hobbies or aims to build a space online. Its operation is very easy so everyone can use it.

If I am a teacher in the future, I will let my children use padlet in the daily studying life. I can create a title at first. And then I will ask children to share their opinions on the padlet so that everyone else can see. No matter how many people, they can all add comments on it.

This project connect to one of the ISTE standards: design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments. Teacher design, develop, andevaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resouces. Teachers can create a technology-enriched learning environments that enable all the students to share their opinions and take an active part in the activities by using padlet. What’s more, padlet provides students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards. We move the real white board on the Internet. It becomes more comfortable and convenient for us to use. And there are many people share on it, people can learn form others easilier.

Day Two

My understanding on the flipped classroom

In the morning, the teacher introduced the flipped classroom to us. I learned that this kind of classroom is quite different from traditional teaching model. Students should watch lectures at home at their own pace, communicating with peers and teachers online. And concept engagement takes place in the classroom with the help of the instructors.

As a college student, I want my professors to use this method. Because if we miss work, we can catch up easily. It is easy for us to learn the contect at our own pace. And it provides more time and opportunities for interaction.

In the future, if I teach a class, I will use this method. Flipped classroom can motivate students learning interests and help increase their testing scores.

Working experiences on creating a lesson plan with the flipped classroom teaching model

Our group met some challenges. We did not confirm lesson title and subject area at the first time. We wanted to teach children maths at first, but we find it is a little bit different for us to prepare the lesson plan. Finally, we chose the visual art. We think that we are more familiar with it.

I think this project is very interesting and children will very like it. I think mixing colours is very interesting. Children can see the change of colours when they are mixed. And this kind of change is various. And childern can use different painting materials. They can draw whatever they want.

I learn a lot from this project. When we teach children, we should use interesting way to attract their attention. We can teach them through playing games. And when they are drawing, teachers should give them enough materials and freedom. Children are very creative.

My experiences on working on the survey

When we are creating this project, everyone of our group has to think about two questions. So some questions are very similar.

I think this technology is easy to use. Its language is English. At first we should translate it into Chinese. Then it is easy for us to use.

I can use this tool to do survey when I am making lesson plan. It can collect children’s real situations. It can help me to work out the plan better.

I am a sophomore in TianHua College. My major is preschool education. I have several reasons why I choose this major. First, I like spending time with children. Their thoughts are pure and their actions are cute. I don’t have any pressure when I get along with them. I love children. Second, I think this major has a good development trend. With the implementation of the national two-child policy, we can have more working opportunity.

Today is the first day we take this course. Teacher introduced the technology used for young children. In this class, teacher showed us three video. I saw that there are many technology in the classroom. While in China, we never see this phenomenon. Teacher uses white board, televisions, digital cameras, computers, iPads to teach children. They can feel interested in studying through this way. And everyone can join in. It can help develop children’s intelligence, nonverbal skills, structural knowledge, long-term memory, verbal skills ,and problem solving, high-level of communication and cooperation skills, and written language. Teacher used iPad to record the voice that children read. And they she played it to children to help them find some shortages. So children can change it the next time. I think it is a very effective way to learn read. And teacher used white board to let children learn maths. It is more interesting than let children do exercise books. I think Chinese education should learn it. It is a good way for children to learn by technology.
